With a clicker, some treats and a little patience, you can teach a dog to do almost anything quickly, easily and with minimal stress. Check out the attached video to learn how to teach a dog to jump through a hoop and jump over your leg in two directions.
Raina was a Service Dog in Training, but was program released and placed as a facility dog in 2011. She was (and still is) a clicker training fiend and demonstrates the ease with which herding dogs (or any highly clicker-conditioned dog) can be taught something new. Her background as an SDiT gave her a solid platform of performance and socialization which made her a perfect demo dog for this video. Any dog that has been clicker conditioned, though, can be taught to jump over your leg using the system Raina demos.
Keep in mind that the concepts used in this video, particularly marking, reinforcement, taking breaks and mixing things up, don’t only apply to teaching a dog to jump over your leg, but to anything you want to teach.
