4Kines Car Seat Cover Review

If you have a dog, you know how much they can shed. There’s hair on the couch, your clothes and, if your dog travels with you at all, in your car. No one likes riding on a blanket of fur, so for many people, a car seat cover is a great option. However, finding the right seat cover isn’t easy! It needs to be durable, look great, install and uninstall quickly for when you have extra human passengers, fit well and be budget-friendly.

4Kines Pet Products promises “stylish, heavy-duty products that make traveling with your furry best friend easier,” and after conducting an exhaustive review of their Rear Seat Cover, we’re rather inclined to agree!

I had the privilege of reviewing a 4Knines dog seat cover for rear bench seats. I’m a professional Service Dog trainer, and the company car is a 2013 Honda Fit. At the time of review, there were over a dozen dogs in and out of my car, including several puppies under 4 months old. Crates, massive bags of food, gear and equipment and other business property were routinely drug in and out as well. All of that to say, the 4Kines Rear Seat Cover saw a lot of heavy-duty use and traffic!

4Knines Seat CoverWhen I began to put the cover in my car, I was surprised at how simple the process was, and admittedly, skeptical at how well the cover would stay put. The small PVC anchors, that anchor the cover into the seat, are not only simple to use, but no matter how much a dog shifted, got in and out, or moved, the cover didn’t budge. The grip points on the underside of the cover help as well. It installed in seconds and in a pinch, removes relatively quickly, but more on that later.

As a professional Service Dog trainer, many different dogs are transported in my vehicle, going many different places. Sometimes, that means going to the park for a swim, or romp in the mud. Washing the cover, was easy and simple. Throw it in the wash, and you’re good to go. After 3 different washes, the cover still looks brand new. The fabric is a heavy-duty quilted material that looks great, cleans easily and contains fur.

There are a couple of features I would change about the cover. First, is the surface material. Most of my dogs had issues with sliding even when adjusting their positions while on the cover. It is a slick surface, and while that makes the cover very easy to wipe and clean, it caused initial uncertainty when any of the dogs rode on it. It’s not very “grippy” on the front side.

To affix the cover to the headrest, there are adjustable loops, that go around the headrests. They adjust to a very wide range, but are a pain to adjust. My car is a hatchback, and if I need to fold the seats down, and take off the cover, it is not a quick process. I would prefer to see an adjustable strap with a quick release buckle, or similar attachment.

All in all, I was quite impressed with the functionality, durability, and overall performance of the cover. It is easy to use, and so simple to clean. It stays in place flawlessly, even with my herd going in and out sometimes dozens of times a day. I would happily recommend the 4Kines seat cover to other dog owners.
