Planning Your Dog’s Vaccinations

Vaccination helps prevent infectious disease. Plan it with your veterinarian using the dog’s age, records, health, location and likely exposures.

AAHA’s canine guidelines distinguish vaccines recommended for dogs generally from those selected according to individual risk. Follow applicable rabies requirements and discuss a schedule suited to your dog.

Vaccines are preventive care, not cures, and no vaccine guarantees that a dog can never become infected or transmit disease. Ask about expected benefits, possible adverse effects and what to do if your dog has had a previous reaction.

The original article’s unchecked survey figures, misattributed global-health claim and insurance referral have been removed. A service-dog label alone does not determine every vaccine the dog needs.
