Online community helps Hearing Service Dog In Training hit by bus

Part of our mission at Anything Pawsable is to provide a way for Service and Working Dog owners to help each other. So when Kiely Clark shared this with us, we had to help get the word out.

Photo of Amber[Original story, update below] This call-out is very urgent. Amber is a one-year-old Texas Heeler who was in the process of being trained as a Hearing Service Dog. She has been struck by a bus and very badly hurt and needs urgent surgery today. She has multiple fractures, a ruptured bladder, and her body cavity is herniated. Amber is not in stable condition. Yesterday, IMOM.org, an angel website that helps raise funds for financially-challenged pet owners, made an immediate emergency donation of $700 to get her stabilized and to start the fundraising effort. However, Amber needs full surgery this morning (Sunday, August 28, 2011).

As of this posting, half of the funds have been raised. If you can contribute anything, please visit Amber’s page on IMOM.org or use the donation widget below:

UPDATE 12:00pm, Sunday
From “Kyle imom,” a member of the IMOM.org Board of Directors
“I just spoke with Amber’s veterinarian. Amber

had surgery during the night to repair her ruptured bladder and the herniation in her body cavity. Surgery was successful and she’…s doing OK, though she still has the heart arrhythmia. The doctor isn’t certain when surgery to repair Amber’s fractured pelvis will take place. The surgeon (a different vet) will evaluate Amber again tomorrow about that.

I am just amazed as always by the profoundly compassionate ad generous response of our community to saving a pet in crisis. Thank you all so much for your donations and for helping to spread the word about Amber’s need for help throughout the Web.

At this time, we think it’s appropriate to bring Amber’s fundraiser to a close. Thank you again! ”

Please help. I am training my own service dog and I need a better understanding of what expenses are allowed to be turned into the housing authority section 8 housing voucher program in Indiana for an owner-trained service dogs. I was told today that things like training treats, dog beds, etc. aren’t covered anymore. I know that I use more treats than the average dog owner since my service dog in training is still learning. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Kim & Finnegan
