Shaping Success by Susan Garrett

Susan Garrett is recognized as the leading educator of dog trainers and is one of the most successful dog agility competitors of the last decade. She won her first USDAA Grand Prix Final in 1996 and since then has accumulated a total of 20 National and International Championship wins covering 7 different jump heights (8”, 10”, 12”, 16”, 22”, 24” & 26”) and has won two height divisions at a National Agility Championship on three different occasions.

shapingsuccessHer dogs have over 50 top ten placements at National Championships including 18 First Place finishes and 6 Second Place finishes and the list just goes on and on!

The Shaping Success book is Susan’s way of sharing both her mistakes and successes in writing. It contains tips, training theory, practical training methods and entertaining stories about Buzz (one of Susan’s awesome Collie). This year, two lucky working dog owners will get to own a copy each.

As a special thanks to our members and friends for helping us encourage voluntary acceptance of Service Dog training and behavior standards, we’re giving away free gear, books, treats and more with our 2015 Howly Jowly Gear Giveaway.

I am training a puppy to be my next guide dog.I feel that this could be very helpful in my training process. You can never have too much knowledge where dog training is concerned. Even though this is not the first guide dog I have trained,I could still use all the help I can get.

I just began training my SDiT and this is the first time I’ve tried using positive methods and am totally a believer. This book would be great to help my on my journey!

I did some agility training with my hearing service dog to keep him involved with new dogs in unfamiliar situations and he loved the work. I am always looking for new training ideas.

Training is ongoing even with a working service dog. Susan Garret is a great instructor and I would love to read about her journey with Buzz and learn from her mistakes and successes.

I’ve watched a couple of Susan Garret’s seminars online, and I’ve enjoyed what I learned. I think my service dog would be happy if I learned a few more tips to help keep up his training, too, and to train new behaviors more effectively!

My dog was home trained by me, luckily completed shortly before my first major long-term multiple sclerosis flare. She is great and now is with me constantly, with the help of a local trainer. We are constantly training, and as my disease progresses, I need to add new skills to her repertoire. This book would help me immensely.

Just realized this was the wrong post, but I would also love to have this book as well. I have heard many great things about this book.

Reading this book would be a great way to teach me a way to exercise my service dog a little differently in his down-time. Agility would help keep his body moving and would be a great outlet for his energy.

As a person who trained my own Service Dog, Bandit, with the help of Willie at DuePraise Dog Training, I rely on information to teach me how to properly train my service dog. This resource would increase the already invaluable service of my partner who does primarily mobility related tasks at this time.

I could use this book to help train my service dog Franklin. We are about six months in with basics and just starting task training!
